Create and assign cable groups

Classify physical ports so connections can derive a numbering group.

Use

In Groups, enter New group name and Create group. Select physical ports in the inventory before creating a group to assign them as part of that action, or use a group's Add selected ports action afterward. Remove selected ports from groups clears their assignments. Delete group removes the group and updates affected grouping data.

Effect

Groups belong to physical ports, not whole devices. Connections normally derive their group from endpoints; differing endpoint groups may require a choice during numbering. Group names must be nonempty and not duplicate an existing group. Group assignment is an edit, while table sorting and searching are not.
