Redline

Labels, slugs, and subtext

Separate readable names from structured identifiers and supporting text.

Purpose

A Label or Name is human-readable text. A slug is a structured identifier made from Key, Delimiter, and Value, such as SW, -, and 01. Subtext is additional descriptive text. Devices, ports, pages, edges, and annotated entities can carry these properties; an edge's slug identifies the cable, not either endpoint device.

Use

Expand Metadata or Connection metadata in Inspector to edit Key, Value, and Slug delimiter where exposed. Text parts can carry rich-text styling. Cable labels provides direct Group, Separator, and Number / value editing and automatic numbering. Do not use a visual label sort as a physical numbering change. See [ Manually edit cable labels ], [ Rich-text editing and formatting ], and [ Preview automatic device IDs ].
